With only 19 days remaining until showtime, it appears the nice “UFC 130: Edgar vs. Maynard III” event poster above will soon be getting a makeover. Company president Dana White confirmed Monday that injuries to both Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard will force the lightweights out of the card’s main event.
According to MMAFighting, the 155-pound king has suffered broken ribs, while Maynard injured his knee.
The light heavyweight clash between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Matt Hamill will be promoted to the night’s featured attraction, while the heavyweight scrap between Frank Mir and Roy Nelson will now serve as the card’s co-main event.
UFC 130 takes place May 28th inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The live pay-per-view broadcast begins at 9PM ET/6PM PT.
Perhaps the company jinxed itself when it announced earlier today they were offering free accident insurance to all of their fighters. Unfortunately for Edgar and Maynard, the plan doesn’t kick in until June 1st.
However, it’s likely the Octagon will pick up the tab having done so for other stars in the past.
Here is the roster’s revised lineup:
Chris Cariaso vs. Michael McDonald
Bart Palaszewski vs. Gleison Tibau
Renan Barao vs. Cole Escovedo
(Spike TV 8PM ET/5PM PT)
Kendall Grove vs Tim Boetsch

Jorge Santiago vs. Brian Stann
Travis Browne vs. Stefan Struve
