UFC Lightweight Champ BJ Penn

Given that Twitter only allows 140 characters per post, we wanted to clear the air regarding some interesting tweets that have recently appeared on the blue-birded network. For starters, Shannon Brown did not sleep with teammate Pau Gasol’s ex-fiancé. Secondly, according to BJ Penn, Jake Shields is the one calling him out, not the other way around.

Considering most of you could care less about Laker drama, let’s jump right into MMA’s latest beef. It seemingly started when a fan asked Shields about a hypothetical bout between he and Penn at “UFC 134: Rio.”

Shields plainly answered with, “Be a good fight.”

Apparently, Penn is motivated by Zuffa, LLC’s new Twitter incentive program. While scouring the social network, the former multi-divisional UFC champ must have caught wind of Shields’ response.

“@jakeshieldsajj I would never challenge one of Cesar Gracie’s guys, but you’ve been calling me out for years. Let’s do it! I’ll contact Dana,” Penn tweeted.

“I’m a BJ fan but let’s get it on. Make the call,” Shields answered. “@bjpenndotcom even better, let’s make it the first 5 round non-title fight.”

Shields may or may not have been dissing Penn’s questionable cardio in the second-part of his post. If he was, the Hawaiian is more than willing to tango for 25 minutes instead of just 15.

“@jakeshieldsajj If that makes you feel more confident….. sure,” Penn promptly responded.

Oddly, Penn, Shields and Georges St-Pierre were all whooping it up together just last week at the UFC Fighter Summit.

“It is good to be back from Vegas. I had a good time at the conference ended up partying with BJ and GSP,” Shields previously wrote.

All’s quite on UFC president Dana White’s Twitter feed…
