After posting an “embarrassing” performance against Frank Mir at UFC 130, Roy Nelson now has an appointment with the principal. Although company president Dana White was in a pleasant mood during the post-fight presser, he became pretty animated when discussing “Big Country” and his even bigger belly.
“I thought Roy looked terrible,” White matter-of-factly stated. “I thought it was terrible. I thought it was embarrassing.
“I don’t know. I have a meeting with him on Friday and we’ll see what happens.”
Nelson has done a masterful job of marketing himself since joining the world’s premier MMA promotion in late 2009. Between his bubbly belly and magnificent mullet, he’s managed to become one of the sport’s most recognizable athletes.
The 34-year-old had Weird Al Yankovic’s “I’m fat” blasting through the arena’s sound system when he entered the Octagon on Saturday. Unfortunately for Nelson, it was the loudest ovation he would receive all night.
“I’m not happy about the performance. I thought it was borderline embarrassing,” White flatly stated. “When you’re the co-main or the main event, you’ve got to go out there and perform and look good. When you don’t, you’re going to hear my opinion about it. And the fans and the media, I’m sure.”
After loading up his DVR early Sunday morning, the former IFL heavyweight champ couldn’t have agreed more with his boss’ sentiment.
“I want 2 thank every1 Its time 4 Roy 1.1 learned a lot last night just watched the fight look like sh!t,” Nelson tweeted. “Loss was simple, gassed from moving all the weight around physically I was just out gunned But always trying 2 win.
“At the end of the day u must win to go forward in this sport.”
