Wilson Gouveia Out of UFC 102 Bout

It’s the bout that was never meant to be. American Top Team fighter Wilson Gouveia will be forced out of his UFC 102 fight after suffering a back injury during training.  Two days ago, Gouveia’s original opponent, James Irvin, was just replaced by Ed Herman after it was revealed that Irvin had hurt his knee.

MMANews.com was the first to report Gouveia’s injury, however no official announcement has come from the UFC or Gouveia regarding the matter.

Gouveia is only .500 over his last four fights, which includes a devastating knockout loss to Nate Marquardt at UFC 95 last January. The American Top Team-trained fighter holds a career mark of 12-6.

It is currently unknown who might step in for Gouveia just three weeks before game time, however there shouldn’t be a problem finding someone to fill in for the un-televised bout.

The Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon will play host to the highly anticipated, and long overdue, heavyweight bout between former champions Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Here is the most updated roster for the August 29th pay-per-view event:

Ed Herman vs. TBD
Matt Veach vs. Evan Dunham
Nick Catone vs. Mark Munoz
Tim Hague Vs. Todd Duffee
Justin McCully vs. Mike Russow
Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Chris Tuchscherer

Main Bouts:

Chris Leben vs. Jake Roshol
Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Brandon Vera
Nate Marquardt vs. Damian Maia
Thiago Silva vs. Keith Jardine
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Randy Couture
