Sportsnet.ca is reporting that Middleweight fighter Joe Doerksen has been released by the UFC today. Doerksen is riding a three-fight losing streak under the Zuffa, LLC. umbrella. The most recent TKO loss to Jason MacDonald at UFC 83 seems to have been the last straw for Dana White and company as Doerksen told Sportsnet.ca, “they [the UFC] need me to go put a couple of wins together”.
Doerksen has compiled at 39-12-0 record thus far in his career, but has come up short in some of the biggest fights of his career. He got outstruck by world-class grappler Paulo Filho for the WEC Middleweight title, and then in a must win fight at UFC 83 he got TKO’ed by Jason MacDonald.
There’s no doubt that the UFC will be keeping an eye on Doerksen’s progress in the smaller organizations for the simple fact that their own Middleweight division is rail-thin as at is.
Here’s a little more of what Doerksen had to say about his release:
I’m just going to go out and do what I always do, put five or 10 wins together and come back and try again. At the end of the day, I know the fight was very well received by the fans and that’s the most important thing to me personally.
