After an extended hiatus, Strikeforce’s Heavyweight Grand Prix finally resumes later this month. Although much wind has been taken out of the tournament’s sails with the abrupt exit of Fedor Emelianenko, “Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum” showcases several exciting bouts and countless superstars.
The good news for fight fans is that ten bouts on the roster will be televised. For the first time ever, HDNet will feature five preliminary bouts live beginning at 8PM ET/5PM PT.
Showtime will broadcast the main bouts starting at 10PM ET/PT (Tape-delayed if you don’t have access to an east coast feed).
Lightweight stars Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante and KJ Noons will make their long awaited returns action in the undercard. The submission specialist faces Justin Wilcox, while the former EliteXC champ fights Jorge Masvidal.
Alistair Overeem faces Fabricio Werdum in the event’s featured attraction. The heavyweights will meet in the opening round of Strikeforce’s tourney. Former UFC champion Josh Barnett will meet Brett Rogers in another quarterfinals matchup.
Additional bouts could still be added to the show. If not, every scrap will be made available for viewing.
