According to Luke Rockhold, he will challenge Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza for his title on a yet-to-be announced September 10th fight card.
“Words out, Im fighting Jacare for the title. I feel healthy, I feel ready and I feel I have all the tools to take his belt. It’s on,” Rockhold tweeted. “I guess good things happen to people who wait! Lol fight will b [Sept 10].”
Rockhold holds a 7-1 professional record, but hasn’t been seen since jamming his knees into Paul Bradley’s body in February 2010 to collect his sixth consecutive victory. The up-and-comer has been sidelined with various injuries.
Jacare owns an impressive 14-2 resume, including his first successful title defense in January. Prior to submitting Robbie Lawler at “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg,” the Brazilian defeated Tim Kennedy to capture the vacant middleweight crown.
A venue has yet to be selected to host the scrap. Showtime is expected to broadcast the card’s main bouts.
Here are the athletes rumored for the show:
Josh Thomson vs. Maximo Blanco
