Gina Carano’s long-awaited return to mixed martial arts just got a bit longer. With only 11 days remaining until the curtain is drawn on “Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum,” company CEO Scott Coker announced Carano’s “medical clearance was revoked” and she will not participate in their June 18th extravaganza.
Coker did not go into specifics regarding “Conviction’s” setback. However, Showtime’s Twitter account specified Carano’s doctor was the one that wouldn’t clear her.
The obvious questions regarding the 29-year-old is what is exactly wrong with her and when can fans expect for her to return?
Also, did she initially receive medical clearance and then have it yanked after obtaining approval?
Coker danced around all questions regarding Carano during Tuesday’s conference call. Although, the soft-spoken promoter reported the shootout between Jorge Masvidal and KJ Noons has been promoted to the main card in place of Carano vs. Sarah D’Alelio.
No word if D’Alelio will remain in the lineup.
“Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum” takes place inside the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
