There’s a big showdown looming in the UFC’s heavyweight division. Top contender Junior dos Santos solidified his spot as Cain Velasquez’s first title defense with an impressive win over Shane Carwin at UFC 131.
Not many expected Saturday’s main event to last the full 15 minutes, but fans who packed the Rogers Center in Vancouver, Canada definitely got their money’s worth.
The quick-hitting Brazilian used his superior boxing to keep his opponent at bay, and almost made it a quick night of work, but Carwin was able to survive the early onslaught in the opening round.
Grudge Training Center’s top 265-pounder was never able to put dos Santos in much danger. When it was all said and done, the writing was all over Carwin’s battered and bloodied face.
Now, dos Santos will finally get the opportunity to fight for the title after coaching on the past season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”
“That’s awesome, thank God for that. Much respect for Cain Velasquez, but Cain I’m coming for you,” dos Santos stated following the biggest win of his life.
