Immediately after suffering the second loss of his professional career, former UFC interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin was rushed to the emergency room to have his battered face examined.
Carwin’s manager, Jason Genet, updated fans on his client’s health status because Carwin was unable to attend the post-fight presser.
“Shane Carwin Rushed to Emergency Room Following Loss to Junior Dos Santos,” Genet’s Ingrained Media posted on Twitter. “Congrats to Junior and his camp. @ShaneCarwin will be back.
“3 deep cuts, broken nose and he will need to go to the emergency room for a CT scan.”
Junior dos Santos dominated Carwin for 15 lopsided minutes to earn a unanimous decision victory and first dibs at Cain Velasquez’s freshly minted crown. Carwin accepted the top contender contest on last-minute notice after Brock Lesnar’s bout with diverticulitis forced him out of the main event.
Since exploding onto the mixed martial arts scene with a perfect 12-0 record, with all of his victories ending in the opening round, Carwin has dropped two consecutive fights.
UFC 131 took place Saturday night inside the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada.
