We have good news for Dream fans, as a third champion has been added to their July 16th show. The bad news is Marius Zaromskis’ welterweight crown will not be on the line when he rematches Hayato Sakurai inside the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan.
The 170-pounders initially met at Dream’s Welterweight Grand Prix back in July of 2009. Zaromskis put Sakurai to sleep with a devastating head kick in the tourney’s semifinals. The Lithuanian went on to capture the tournament to become the organization’s first welterweight king.
Light heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi puts his strap up for grabs against Hiroshi Izumi in the card’s featured contest, while Kazuyuki Miyata will challenge featherweight title holder Hiroyuki Takaya for his belt in the night’s other championship affair.
Dream’s eight-man bantamweight tournament will also conclude at the event.
As of now, no broadcast plans have been announced for the star-studded show. If the event is made available in North America, HDNet would likely play host.
Here are the athletes expected to perform in the Land of the Rising Sun:
Atsushi Yamamoto vs. Kenji Osawa (Third Place)
Masakazu Imanari vs. Hideo Tokoro (Finals)
Eiji Mitsuoka vs. Bruno Carvalho
Todd Duffee vs. Nick Gaston
Willamy Freire vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri
Hayato Sakurai vs. Marius Zaromskis (Dream Welterweight Champion)*
Kazuyuki Miyata vs. Hiroyuki Takaya (Dream Featherweight Champion)
Hiroshi Izumi vs. Gegard Mousasi (Dream Light Heavyweight Champion)
