After a thrilling night of freebie MMA action, UFC president Dana White awarded Cheick Kongo, Joe Lauzon, Charles Oliveira and Nik Lentz each an additional $50,000 for their special performances Sunday night at “UFC on Versus 4: Kongo vs. Barry.”
After nearly getting put to sleep against Pat Barry in the opening moments of the night’s main event, Kongo took a licking and kept on ticking to earn a KO victory and the commission check to boot.
Lauzon caught Curt Warburton in a slick kimura in the 1stRound of their 155-pound matchup to pocket “Submission of the Night” honors.
Their lightweight scrap was marred in controversy, but the news isn’t all bad for Lentz. Oliveira landed an illegal knee that dazed his opponent, however the ref didn’t see it. The Brazilian pounced and submitted Lentz.
It’s likely the bout will overturned to a No Contest.
“UFC on Versus 4” took place Sunday night inside the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
