While Charlie Brenneman claimed his unanimous decision victory over red hot Rick Story at “UFC on Versus 4” will forever be the highlight of his life, Diego Sanchez finally caught Sunday’s scraps on his DVR and was very critical of the performances his fellow 170-pounders gave.
Although he didn’t finger Brenneman specifically, there were only two welterweight contests on the main card. Matt Brown’s decision win over John Howard wasn’t exactly a barnburner, but that bout was significantly less important than Brenneman vs. Story in regards to positioning on the welterweight totem pole.
Here is Sanchez’s scouting report from late Monday night (via Twitter):
Watched the fights tonight was not impressed with the welterweights at all!
I’m just saying watch the fight neither of them looked sharp in any area blue belt ground game weak GNP wrestling was nit good either
Even the conditioning and pace were weak I’m just saying from a technical point of view. Top welterweight’s??? I say not
Brenneman took the Story fight on one days notice. As far as “Horror,” he accepted the bout against Nate Marquardt just three weeks after beating Thiago Alves at UFC 130.
Sanchez will meet Matt Hughes at UFC 135 on September 24th. “Dream” is currently riding a two-fight winning streak.
