The world’s top 135-pounders took center stage in the Octagon on Saturday night, as champion Dominick Cruz looked to avenge his 2007 loss to former featherweight champ Urijah Faber in UFC 132‘s featured attraction.
As expected, the action was fast and furious for the duration of their scrap. Although Urijah Faber knocked the champ on his rear multiple times throughout their contest, the three officials sitting cageside awarded “The Dominator” a lopsided (50-45, 49-46, 48-47) unanimous decision victory.
“This fight tells me a lot about myself. I lost to him four years ago and it’s harder to lose and come back than it is to win and keep winning. I waited for this fight and this opportunity and I am glad that I got this victory,” Cruz said following the win.
As close as the scrap was, Faber didn’t believe he did enough to don the strap.
“I feel like I didn’t do enough to win and obviously, the judges saw it the same way. I like to finish fights and that’s what I was trying to do. I feel like I landed the heavier punches, but it wasn’t enough. My game plan was to nullify his feints and movements. I came up short,” stated a disappointed Faber.
