The world’s premier mixed martial arts promotion announced Wednesday afternoon that Brian Stann will welcome Chael Sonnen back to the Octagon at UFC 136. The event takes place October 8th inside the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
Sonnen hasn’t been seen since tapping out to middleweight king Anderson Silva at UFC 117. Since the August 2010 submission loss, Sonnen has been up to his eyeballs in controversy. Now that his failed drug test, suspension, Testosterone Replacement Therapy disclosure and Federal plea bargain for money laundering are in his rear-view mirror, the controversial wrestler can finally look forward to resuming his fighting career.
Stann, on the other hand, has posted a pair of consecutive TKO victories over more than credible opposition in his last two outings. Prior to putting Jorge Santiago down at UFC 130, he blasted through Chris Leben on New Year’s Day.
According to Heavy, who first broke the news of the scrap, the 185-pound shootout will serve as the card’s co-main event.
According to the trusty rumor mill, a featherweight title tilt between champion Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian could headline the pay-per-view broadcast. No other bouts have been mentioned for the Octagon’s return to Texas at this time.
