The UFC’s Twitter is working overtime this Wednesday evening. Shortly after confirming Chael Sonnen’s highly anticipated return, the company announced Charles Oliveira will face Donald Cerrone at “UFC on Versus 5” on August 14th.
Ceronne was slated to meet Paul Taylor in the freebie fight card, but the Brit was forced out with an undisclosed injury. Ironically, Ceronne was playing substitute for Taylor’s original opponent, John Makdessi.
Got it? Good!
Oliveira is two weeks removed from his controversial fight with Nik Lentz at “UFC on Versus 4.” After winning the 1stRound on all three scorecards, the Brazilian landed an illegal knee that clearly dazed a downed Lentz. Unfortunately, the referee didn’t see the illegal strike.
The jiu jitsu wizard immediately pounced and quickly ended things with a rear-naked choke. After further review, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission overturned the fight to a ‘No Contest’.
The event takes place inside the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Versus will broadcast the main bouts live at 9PM ET/6PM PT.
