It’s not often MMA fighters get what they ask for, but Strikeforce just granted Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante his wish late Wednesday night. The UFC’s little brother has announced JZ will make a quick turnaround from last month’s ‘No Contest’ against Justin Wilcox to compete at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson.”
The talented Brazilian meets Lyle Beerbohm on July 30th inside the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
Although JZ seemed to struggle against Wilcox in the opening round, it appeared as though he found his groove in the second stanza. Unfortunately for both lightweights, Wilcox received an accidental eye poke and the fight was called.
JZ’s record hit 15-4-1 (2 NC) following the unfortunate incident. Twelve of his victories have ended via devastating finish. The 28-year-old immediately took to his Twitter account and petitioned for work, as he expected to put on a show in his highly anticipated return.
Beerbohm owns an underrated 15-2 resume, with 13 of his wins coming before the final horns have sounded. He’s dropped two straight scraps, most recently getting submitted by Shinya Aoki at “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley” this past April.
The promotion did not announce whether the 155-pound affair would take place in the televised portion of the Showtime broadcast.
Here are the athletes expected to compete in the extravaganza:
Sarah D’Alelio vs. Ronda Rousey
Julie Kedzie vs. Alexis Davis
Scott Smith vs. Tarec Saffiedine
Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante vs. Lyle Beerbohm
Paul Daley vs. Tyron Woodley
Tim Kennedy vs. Robbie Lawler
Miesha Tate vs. Marloes Coenen (Women’s Welterweight Champion)
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Dan Henderson (Heavyweight Bout)
