Two weeks after signing Japanese star Hatsu Hioki to a big league contract, the world’s premier mixed martial arts announced the featherweight will make his highly anticipated stateside debut against veteran George Roop. The 145-pounders will square off at UFC 137 on October 29th.
The submission specialist owns an impressive 24-4-2 record, with nearly all of his scraps taking place overseas. He’s won four consecutive contests. Hioki voluntarily vacated the Shooto title recently, which ignited rumors he would soon be Octagon bound.
Roop holds a 12–7–1 resume and was last seen posting a TKO win over Josh Grispi at “The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale.”
Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada will host the Halloween weekend event. A blockbuster welterweight scrap between UFC champion Georges St-Pierre and former Strikeforce title holder Nick Diaz will headline the pay-per-view broadcast.
