Strikeforce Gesias JZ Cavalcante

Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante’s brief Strikeforce career hasn’t exactly gone according to plan. After dropping a disappointing decision loss to former champ Josh Thomson in his organizational debut, the talented Brazilian was primed to show his mettle to stateside fans in his comeback bout.

Unfortunately for JZ, he accidentally poked Justin Wilcox in the eye just moments into the 2ndRound of their lightweight affair. Although last month’s ‘No Contest’ wasn’t the outcome he was aiming for, the fight proved to be a good practice session for the veteran.

“I went there competed, the adrenaline and everything was there. So it’s kind of like training, also,” Cavalcante told 5thRound. “Even if I didn’t have the result [I was hoping for], but for me I had a positive result. I had a good training camp, the fight I did ok.

“I see things that I can improve a little bit more, but at the end I’m happy with my performance. I know I can do better than that and I have a fight coming up. It’s time to prove everything there.”

JZ’s record hit 15-4-1 (2 NC) following the unfortunate incident, with twelve of his victories ending via devastating finish. The 28-year-old takes his talents to Illinois this Saturday to face last-minute substitute Bobby Green at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson.”

“I’m so excited that I was able to get another fight so fast,” JZ said of his quick turnaround. “It didn’t matter who I was going to fight, I just wanted to get back to doing my job. I love it so much. This is what I do.”
