“Edgar vs. Maynard III”: Take Two. After having their championship trilogy at UFC 130 postponed due to injuries, MMAFighting reported Friday Frankie Edgar will put his title on the line against Gray Maynard at UFC 136.
The lightweights kicked off 2011 with a highly controversial draw at UFC 125. Although the challenger layeth the smacketh down in the 1stRound, Edgar showed the heart of a true champion and managed to survive the onslaught.
A couple of hotly contested rounds later, most notably three and five, and both fighters were forced to exit the Octagon in disgust. The bright side for Edgar is that he left Las Vegas with the title in tow.
Maynard posted a lopsided unanimous decision victory over Edgar in April of 2008. The defeat marks the only loss on Edgar’s resume.
UFC 136 takes place inside the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The 155-pounders will headline the pay-per-view broadcast.
Here are the athletes rumored to appear in the show:
Matt Grice vs Josh Grispi
Dave Herman vs. Mike Russow
Demian Maia vs. Jorge Santiago
Chael Sonnen vs. Brian Stann
Gray Maynard vs. Frankie Edgar (UFC Lightweight Champion)
