The UFC’s Twitter strikes again. Late Saturday evening, the company used the social media network to announce a lightweight shootout between Anthony Pettis and Jeremy Stephens had been added to their “UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard III” roster.
The event takes place October 8th inside the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
Pettis owns an impressive 13-2 record, but dropped his UFC debut against Clay Guida last month at “The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale.” Prior to the unanimous decision loss, he captivated the MMA world with his unforgettable ‘Showtime Kick’ on Ben Henderson to capture the WEC title.
Stephens owns a 20-6 resume and has rattled off two consecutive victories inside the Octagon. “Lil Heathen” was last seen beating Daniel Downes in the same ‘TUF 13 Finale’ card.
“Well, it’s been released! Fighting at UFC 136 in Houston, TX (Oct 8th) against Anthony Pettis! I like Showtime, but it’ll be a great fight!” Stephens tweeted.
Because of the awesomeness of the lineup, it’s likely their 155-pound scrap will appear in the preliminary portion of the festivities. Don’t fret, fanboys. It’s highly likely Facebook and/or Spike TV will step in to save the day.
A pair of championship scraps will headline the pay-per-view broadcast. Jose Aldo puts his featherweight crown on the line against Kenny Florian in the co-main event, while lightweight champ Frankie Edgar meets Gray Maynard for a third time in the night’s featured attraction.
Here are the athletes scheduled to appear in the star-studded show:
Matt Grice vs Josh Grispi
Dave Herman vs. Mike Russow
Anthony Pettis vs. Jeremy Stephens
Demian Maia vs. Jorge Santiago
Melvin Guillard vs. Joe Lauzon
Chael Sonnen vs. Brian Stann
Kenny Florian vs. Jose Aldo (UFC Featherweight Champion)
Gray Maynard vs. Frankie Edgar (UFC Lightweight Champion)
