After getting fired and then rehired by MMA’s major leagues, it was announced light heavyweight Brandon Vera will make his return to action against Eliot Marshall on October 29th at “UFC 137: St-Pierre vs. Diaz.”
“The Truth” was released from the promotion after losing a convincing unanimous decision to Thiago Silva at UFC 125. The defeat marked his third straight, and we all know what running the reverse trifecta typically means…
Fortunately for Vera, he was offered a reprieve when Silva subsequently flunked his drug test. UFC president Dana White later offered the Filipino-American his job back.
Speaking of previously being shown the door, Marshall finds himself in a must-win predicament after he was allowed back into the Octagon. The former “The Ultimate Fighter 8” contestant started off his second stint with the UFC by posting a TKO loss to Luiz Cane in March.
Marshall holds a 10-3 professional record, but is a mundane 2-2 under the UFC’s banner.
UFC 137 takes place inside the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Georges St-Pierre puts his 170-pound crown on the line against former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz in the card’s featured attraction.
Here is the card’s revised lineup:
Hatsu Hioki vs. George Roop
Eliot Marshall vs. Brandon Vera
Roy Nelson vs. Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic
Dennis Siver vs. Sam Stout
Matt Mitrione vs. Cheick Kongo
Carlos Condit vs. BJ Penn
Nick Diaz vs. Georges St-Pierre (UFC Welterweight Champion)
