Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante (Pictured) will make his comeback fight against Yoel Romero at “Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Semifinals” on September 10th. Romero’s ML Management announced the shootout Wednesday morning.
Cavalcante steps into the hexagon for the first time since losing his 205-pound crown to Dan Henderson this past March. The devastating TKO loss snapped the Brazilian’s three-fight winning streak.
Romero, who just inked a five-fight deal with the San Jose, California based promotion, takes a perfect 4-0 resume with him into his Strikeforce debut. Most of the wrestler’s scraps have taken place in his homeland of Germany.
“I’m excited about this opportunity,” said Romero. “I’ve wanted to prove my skills in MMA for a long time and to get the opportunity to that with a person of Feijao’s caliber is exciting.”
Showtime will broadcast the card’s main bouts starting at 10PM ET/PT. It’s unknown whether their light heavyweight affair will make it to air.
Strikeforce’s Alistair Overeem-less Heavyweight Grand Prix Semifinals will headline the star-studded event.
The U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio will play host.
