Although his Octagon debut lasted less than four forgettable minutes, Ramsey Nijem will be granted another go with the world’s premier mixed martial arts promotions. Thursday afternoon, it was announced “The Ultimate Fighter 13” runner-up will meet Danny Downs at “UFC 137: St-Pierre vs. Diaz.”
Prior to getting put to sleep last month by Tony Figueroa, which cost Nijem a six-figure UFC contract, the welterweight had rattled off three consecutive victories. Although he was one of the most memorable characters on ‘TUF 13’, another loss could mark the end of his tenure in the major leagues.
Downs dropped a unanimous decision to Jeremy Stephens the same evening Nijem’s night was ended early. That too was his UFC debut, and it’s likely the same unemployment rules will apply to “Danny Boy.”
UFC 137 takes place inside the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Georges St-Pierre puts his 170-pound crown on the line against former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz in the pay-per-view’s featured attraction.
