UFC president Dana White confirmed with NBCSports.com late Thursday evening that bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will put his title on the line against Demetrious Johnson at “UFC on Versus 6” on October 1st.

Cruz owns a dominant 18-1 resume and has been perfect through his last nine contests. He posted a unanimous decision victory over bitter rival Urijah Faber earlier this month at UFC 132.

Johnson bumped his record to 10-1 after cruising past former WEC bantamweight king Miguel Torres at UFC 130. “Mighty Mouse” is currently riding a four-fight winning streak.

The show marks the first time the promotion has offered up a championship affair for free television since UFC 75 in September of 2007. However, that card took place in England and was made available via same-day tape-delay.

“UFC on Versus 6” takes place inside the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. The network will broadcast the main bouts live starting at 9PM ET/6PM PT.

Here are the athletes expected to appear in the freebie fight card:

Mac Danzig vs. Matt Wiman

Paul Sass vs. Michael Johnson

Charlie Brenneman vs. Anthony “Rumble” Johnson

Demetrious Johnson vs. Dominick Cruz (UFC Bantamweight Champion)
