On Monday afternoon, it was announced Costantinos Phillippou had agreed to face veteran Jorge Rivera at “UFC 133: Evans vs. Ortiz” on just 12 days notice. Rivera was initially slated to meet Alessio Sakara in the August 6th show, but their middleweight shootout was cancelled earlier today after Sakara tore his ACL.
Phillippou was scheduled to fight Rafael Natal in a preliminary bout matchup, but was quickly promoted to the pay-per-view portion of the festivities after Sakara’s injury was brought to light.
No word on what the UFC intends to do with Natal. There would only be 10 bouts remaining on the roster if they decide against finding him an opponent.
For those of you at home keeping tabs, this was the third time Rivera vs. Sakara was scrapped due to injury.
The Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia will host the Octagon’s long-awaited return to Pennsylvania. A light heavyweight contest between former champions Rashad Evans and Tito Ortiz will headline the show.
