In an attempt to spice up a relatively slow MMA news day, the world’s premier mixed martial arts promotion added a thrilling heavyweight shootout between Pat Barry and Stefan Struve to their “UFC on Versus 6” roster on Tuesday afternoon.

Barry owns a 6-3 professional MMA record, but the charismatic striker has alternated between wins and losses over his last six contests. “HD” was on the wrong end of a miraculous highlight reel comeback last month. After mauling Cheick Kongo in their bout’s opening ticks, Barry was a tad overzealous in his attack and wound up unconscious for his efforts.

Speaking of getting separated from your senses, Struve was viciously put to sleep in his last outing by Travis Browne at UFC 130. Prior to the knockout loss, “Skyscraper” had rattled off 10 wins in his last 12 outings.

“UFC on Versus 6″ takes place October 1st inside the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will defend his crown against Demetrious Johnson in the night’s featured attraction.

Versus will broadcast the main bouts live starting at 9PM ET/6PM PT.

Here are the athletes expected to perform in the Nation’s Capital:

Mac Danzig vs. Matt Wiman

Paul Sass vs. Michael Johnson

Stefan Struve vs. Pat Barry

Charlie Brenneman vs. Anthony “Rumble” Johnson

Demetrious Johnson vs. Dominick Cruz (UFC Bantamweight Champion)
