While the UFC has focused their promotional efforts towards remaining the world’s fastest growing sport, it appears they may have overlooked the world’s most popular sport. Apparently, soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t realize Octagon shows took place outside of U.S. soil.
Thankfully, UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez speaks Spanish and was able to school the planet’s most popular futbol player on the ins and outs of MMA.
Of the 24 shows the UFC hosted in 2010, seven of them took place outside of the States. Australia, Abu Dhabi, Canada, England and Germany all showcased live Octagon action last year. Our neighbors to the north held three events.
Velasquez hasn’t been seen since mauling Brock Lesnar for his heavyweight title at UFC 121 last October. He is scheduled to break in his new belt against Junior dos Santos at UFC 139 on November 19th.
