Dream Lightweight Champion Shinya Aoki

On Friday morning, it was announced Dream lightweight champion Shinya Aoki will meet Rob McCullough in a non-title affair at “Dream.17.” The Japanese MMA promotion also confirmed a 155-pound scrap between ex-Sengoku champ Satoru Kitaoka and Willamy Freire for the September 24th show.

Aoki owns an impressive 28-5 (1 NC) resume and is perfect through his last five outings. The submission specialist was last seen tapping out Rich Clementi at “Dream: Fight for Japan” this past May.

He has only defended his belt once since capturing the Dream title in December 2009.

McCullough holds a respectable 19-7 record, but suffered a TKO loss to Patricky Freire at “Bellator 36” in March. The former WEC lightweight champ has lost four of his last eight fights.

“Dream.17” takes place inside the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

No plans have been made regarding a North American broadcast.

Here are is Dream.17’s rumored roster:
