The last time Vitor Belfort took center stage at UFC 126, middleweight king Anderson Silva tested his challenger’s pallet by jamming his foot into Belfort’s mouth. On Saturday night at UFC 133, Belfort made Yoshihiro Akiyama eat a barrage of punches and sent the Japanese star into unconsciousness.
“I feel great,” Belfort emphatically stated. “I feel like if [Silva] hadn’t landed that kick, that’s what would have happened to him.
“I want the winner [of UFC 134 between Silva and Yushin Okami].”
The MMA icons engaged in the shootout that most fans anticipated. Unfortunately for Sexyama, it was a one-sided affair and the loss likely marked the end of his Octagon career. The judoka star has now run the reverse trifecta, which typically signifies a trip to the unemployment line.
“God gave me the strength to move forward, and I thank him for that,” Belfort added. “I have the courage it takes to be one of the best. I feel strong, fit, powerful and fast.”
Belfort bumped his resume to 20-9 following the knockout victory. “The Phenom” has now won six of his last seven contests, with his sole blemish during that stint coming against the baddest middleweight on the planet.
