A pair of former 205-pound champions squared off in the main event at UFC 133 on Saturday. While Rashad Evans and Tito Ortiz fought to a highly controversial draw four years ago at UFC 73, the result inside the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia last night was far more decisive.
There was plenty on the line for “Suga,” who resoundingly proved he’s deserving of the light heavyweight top contender moniker.
Evans’ performance was so impressive that UFC president Dana White dubbed it “amazing” at the post-fight press conference. The “Blackzilian” landed a devastating knee to Ortiz’s solar plexus that completely folded “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” over in the 2ndRound.
Evans now has his sights set on the championship belt he once donned. However, he will have to wait until UFC 135 goes down in September to see if his one-time foe Quinton “Rampage” Jackson or former teammate and reigning champ Jon “Bones” Jones will walk out of Denver with the hardware.
“I want my belt back. Whether [Jones] has it or Rampage has it, I’m getting my belt back,” Evans emphatically stated after his vicious victory.
