A lot of things went UFC Lightweight Kenny Florian’s way Thursday, as first ESPN.com debuted Florian’s MMA show on their website and later, UFC President Dana White stated that the winner of Florian’s next fight against Roger Huerta would be in next in line for a title shot. “MMA Live” airs on ESPN.com at 7PM EST and is hosted by Florian, as well as ESPN’s John Anik and Newark Star-Ledger reporter Franklin McNeil.
Florian is scheduled to take on Huerta at UFC 87, which is set for August 9th in the UFC’s first ever promotion in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The winner of that fight earns the right to take on either Sean Sherk or BJ Penn. Penn will be making his first ever lightweight title defense against his bitter rival at UFC 84.
“…I think the winner of that fight (Huerta/Florian) will fight the winner of this fight (Sherk/Penn)…,” White told MMAWeekly.
Florian has gained much exposure since he emerged onto the UFC scene back in 2005, when he was a contestant on the popular MMA reality series, “The Ultimate Fighter.” Florian has also provided color commentary for a couple of UFC events, most recently UFC 83.
“(It’s) kind of a fast-paced show on the current news and events going on in the sport. There’s a whole lot of guys at ESPN that have been trying to get this done I guess for two years,” Florian said about his show.
