It’s been rumored over the past few weeks that former IFL superstar Ben Rothwell would take on former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andre Arlovski at the “Affliction Banned” card on July 19th at the Honda Center. That rumor is coming closer to fruition as Josh Gross of SI.com is reporting that the UFC has until May 19th to match Affliction’s offer to the former champion.
Arlovski’s last fight for the UFC was at UFC 82 against Jake O’Brien. UFC President Dana White had promised that he would do everything he could to re-sign Arlovski, but he may not want to pay the premium to retain him.
Here’s an excerpt from Gross’ blog:
May 19 is the day when Andrei Arlovski could sign with Affliction, SI.com has learned. That is, assuming the UFC declines to match what is believed to be a deal that pays the former UFC champion in the low-to-mid six figures for the first of three non-exclusive bouts.
The “Affliction Banned” card is shaping up to be the deepest card of the year and tickets go on sale for the general public on May 20th.
“Affliction Banned” will take place at the Honda Center (formerly the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim) on July 19th.
