With his next gig already lined up, don’t expect former UFC light heavyweight champ Chuck Liddell to be inside an Octagon for a minute. While “Dancing with the Stars” should be occupying much of his time, Liddell still faces questions regarding his future as a mixed martial artist.
“I don’t know what my final decision will be,” Liddell recently stated regarding hanging up his gloves. “It’s hard for an athlete to quit what he’s done his whole life. So I don’t know.
“I’ve always said I’m going to make that decision in the gym, not in the ring. After some time off I’ll get back in the gym, throw some punches and take some punches and see how I feel again, and after that I’ll make my decision.”
With “DWTS” slated to premier on September 21st, Liddell’s dance card will be pretty full in the coming weeks (no pun intended), months if he is able to become America’s fan favorite and go deep in the competition. Regardless, “The Iceman” enjoys being in front of a camera and intends on doing it more often, whether he’s being filmed fighting inside an Octagon or not.
“I’ve got some things coming up,” he stated. “I have some meetings next week talking to people about some roles. It’s something I enjoy.”
This latest venture finds him in unfamiliar, and awkward, territory (See pic above). It may be all fun and games from the outside looking in, however Liddell’s success on the show could greatly improve the UFC’s chances of landing a major network deal.
They have been extremely chummy with the ESPN peeps of late, and coincidentally ABC, ESPN’s parent company, televises “DWTS.”
Get the connection? The former face of the UFC sure does.
“I love the fans and I love the sport, so anything I can help out with in any way, [and] I’m going to,” Liddell said.
