In an attempt to try and steal some of the UFC on FOX spotlight, Octagon officials added a featherweight scrap between Darren Elkins and Tiequan Zhang to the “UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard III” lineup on Thursday evening. The 145-pound affair completes the 12-bout roster for the October 8th show.
Elkins is coming off a highly controversial unanimous decision win over Michihiro Omigawa at UFC 131. Although Elkins left the June contest with the victory, UFC president Dana White felt differently and awarded Omigawa with his win bonus despite what the judges’ scorecards read.
Zhang submitted Jason Reinhardt in his big league debut at UFC 127. He holds an impressive 13-1 record, with 10 of his victories coming by way of tapout.
The Toyota Center in Houston, Texas will host the extravaganza. A pair of championship bouts will headline the pay-per-view broadcast.
Featherweight king Jose Aldo will defend his crown against Kenny Florian in the card’s co-featured attraction, while lightweight champ Frankie Edgar faces Gray Maynard in the main event.
