With a critical welterweight clash against Carlos Condit on the horizon, former champ BJ Penn has ventured away from the comforts of his homeland of Hawaii to prepare for his UFC 137 showdown.

Last week, Penn finished up an intense training period with former foe Matt Hughes, the man Penn viciously laid out in 21 seconds at UFC 123 in November. As if that weren’t enough, Pat Miletich, Robbie Lawler and Jeremy Horn, longtime Hughes confidants, were also there to lend their expertise.

Penn’s next destination is the RVCA gym in Southern California. It was actually the 32-year-old’s first stop prior to heading to the mid-west. Although the state-of-the art facility doesn’t stake claim to an MMA team, plenty of superstars come through their doors to get conditioned by Gary and Mark Marinovich.

With just over a month remaining until showtime, it appears Penn is willing to do whatever it takes to make one final run at the welterweight crown.

UFC 137 takes place October 29th inside the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 170-pounders will serve as the pay-per-view’s co-featured attraction. Welterweight king Georges St-Pierre defends his crown against Nick Diaz in the night’s main event.
