UFC Ben Saunders Bellator

Ben Saunders has been assigned a new opponent in Bellator’s upcoming Season 5 Welterweight Tournament. The former UFC star was scheduled to meet Rick Hawn in the tourney’s opening round, but a knee injury has forced him out of the September 10th scrap.

On Saturday, the company announced Chris Cisneros will serve as a last-minute substitute at Bellator 49.

“Well it sucks that my opponent got injured. I was looking forward to testing myself against him. I studied him like crazy expecting a WAR!” Saunders posted on his Twitter. “But injuries and replacements are apart of the game. I always train knowing I might have to adapt to situations. This camp was no different.”

Saunders owns a 10-3-2 professional record and has rattled off two consecutive wins since being released from the UFC in August 2010.

Cisneros joins Bellator with a 11-3 mark and will be riding a five-fight winning streak into the Caesars in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

MTV2 will broadcast the show beginning at 9PM ET/PT.
