Hundreds of Brazilians flooded the beach of Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro today to watch UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva perform for the media. “The Spider” was quickly ushered from his shuttle van to the stage by countless security guards as if he were Brazil’s most popular fighter … Oh, my bad.
Media workouts are typically nothing more than a chance for athletes to flaunt their sponsors’ new gear for promotional pictures, but it was obvious Silva wanted to do a little more for his countrymen that waited hours just to catch a glimpse of him.
The baddest 185-pounder on the planet puts his crown on the line at UFC 134 against Japanese star Yushin Okami. The five-round affair will headline Saturday’s pay-per-view broadcast, which airs live at 9PM ET/6PM PT.
