Honda Center President and CEO Tim Ryan informed the media at the “Affliction Banned” press conference yesterday that, “we went on sale this morning to $250,000 of tickets in the first thirty minutes.”
“We’ve hosted three [events at the Honda Center] and they’ve all sold out. The bottom line is I think that the same thing is going to happen on July the 19th,” Ryan went on to say.
Of the three-event trial mentioned by Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio, this may be the best card that the company can ever put together in its current form. If it does in fact come together, it certainly is a hell of a card.
There’s one thing that we do know for sure though, “Affliction Banned” is generating a lot of buzz within the MMA community. If the turnout at yesterday’s press conference by both fans and media was any indication, Affliction may very well be the UFC’s biggest competition.
Here’s the rub. Many of the people who were at the press conference referred to it as an “ultimate fighting announcement.” Atencio and company have an uphill battle on their hands, but with a broadcast deal with Fox Sports Net and Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia as the main event, the sky’s the limit for the clothing company’s MMA venture.
