The Nevada State Athletic Commission has announced that Cole Province failed his WEC 42 post-fight drug test following his unanimous decision win over Fredson Paixao earlier this month.
NSAC executive director Keith Kizer states they found traces of Methasterone metabolite in his system. Methasterone, a “designer steroid” previously sold as an over-the-counter dietary supplement, was banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency back in 2005.
Province, who holds a 6-1 professional mark, was immediately placed under temporary suspension until a formal hearing regarding the incident is held. Unfortunately, they were not able to fit it into their schedule for their August 19th pow wow.
A suspension and/or fine could be issued at the hearing, and his W could also be overturned to a No Contest.
Kizer also said the Commission tested a total of nine WEC 42 fighters, which took place August 9th at The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, however only Province received a flunking score.
In addition to the roider, Miguel Torres, Brian Bowles, Dominick Cruz, Takeya Mizugaki, Leonard Garcia, Shane Roller, Ed Ratcliff and Diego Nunes were all requested to pee in a cup following their scraps.
