There has been a lot of talk about professional athletes crossing over into Mixed Martial Arts. EliteXC announced today that former NFL Pro Bowler, Carlton Haselrig, will be facing Carlos Moreno in the second MMA fight of his career. Haselrig, played for both the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets while making the pro bowl in 1992. He is the only person in NCAA history to win 6 NCAA wrestling titles.
Haselrig won three NCAA Men’s Division I and three NCAA Men’s Division II wrestling championships, and also defeated future gold-medal wrestler Kurt Angle.
In his first MMA fight, Haselrig defeated Shane Ott in the 1stRound by TKO and will now look to make a successful debut for the EliteXC on May 31st’s primetime undercard.
May 31st will mark the first time in MMA history that a major network will broadcast a MMA event live, as both CBS and EliteXC look for a solid night of ratings.
