The UFC may have enjoyed some time off for Labor Day, but they are certainly making up for lost time today. After announcing Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem would headline their New Year’s weekend extravaganza, the company proceeded to confirm several scraps for their debut on FOX.
A bantamweight bout between Japanese superstar Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto and Octagon rooking Darren Uyenoyama was added to the November 12th card on Tuesday afternoon.
Yamamoto owns a 18–4 (1 NC) record, but dropped a unanimous decision loss to Demetrious Johnson in his UFC debut this past February. The veteran has lost three of his last four contests.
Uyenoyama owns a 6-3 professional mark and earned his shot at the big leagues by posting a TKO victory over Shuichiro Katsumura at “Shooto 5” in September 2010.
In addition to the 145-pound matchup, the previously reported lightweight fight between Clay Guida and Ben Henderson, and the featherweight scrap with Cub Swanson and Ricardo Lamas was also confirmed.
FOX’s hour-long broadcast will only air the heavyweight title affair between champion Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos live. No word on how the other bouts on the card will be shown.
The Honda Center in Anaheim, California will host the event.
Here are the athletes scheduled for the show:
Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto vs. Darren Uyenoyama
Cub Swanson vs. Ricardo Lamas
Dustin Poirier vs. Pablo Garza
Clay Guida vs. Ben Henderson
Junior dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez (UFC Heavyweight Champion)
