Although Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker stated the winner of their Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament would not be anointed the company’s new 265-pound king, he did mention they would be rewarded with a belt.
On Wednesday, Showtime’s publicist released a picture of the new buckle. It appears as though Strikeforce may have gone to Staples to put the finishing touches on the belt, as they plastered the strap with white laminate.
Perhaps engraving the contestants’ names and the belt’s title on the gold plates would have made for a classier look…
Regardless, the tourney resumes this Saturday inside the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. Daniel Cormier meets Antonio Silva in one semifinal scrap, while Josh Barnett battles Sergei Kharitonov in the other 2ndRound matchup.
Showtime will broadcast the main card beginning at 10:30PM ET/PT.
