An undisclosed injury has forced Matt Grice out of his UFC 136 bout against Nam Phan. As we all know fully well, the Octagon show waits for no man as Leonard Garcia has quickly stepped in to fill the void.
Garcia took home a highly controversial split decision victory over Phan at “The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale” last December. The featherweights were slated to rematch at “UFC Fight Night 24” in March, but the Vietnamese-American broke his foot and was forced to withdraw.
Chan Sung Jung, better known as “The Korean Zombie,” replaced Phan and served up one of the most thrilling submission wins in Octagon history when he caught Garcia in a rarely-seen twister. The defeat dropped Garcia’s record to 15–7–1.
Some thought Phan’s job was in jeopardy after posting his second consecutive loss when he met Mike Brown at UFC 133. He has lost four of his past five scraps and is surely facing a must-win situation.
UFC 136 takes place October 8th inside the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
