A rematch between two former UFC heavyweight champions has just been booked for the Octagon’s return to Toronto. On Wednesday afternoon, it was announced Frank Mir (Pictured) would meet Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 140.
“Both men are known as two of the premier submission specialists in the division but have shown dangerous striking skills as well,” said UFC president Dana White.
Mir posted a 2ndRound TKO win over Big Nog at UFC 92 back in December of 2008 to capture the interim crown. Mir went on to lose a title unification bout against Brock Lesnar in his next outing, but has notched victories in three of his last four fights.
Nogueira collected a much-needed win last month when he violently put down Brendan Schaub at UFC 134. He’ll be looking to ride that wave of momentum into the Air Canada Centre in Canada on December 10th.
Only four bouts have been confirmed for the show thus far, with this 265-pound affair being the most prominent. So for now, Mir vs. Nogueira II takes the card’s top billing.
Here is the updated roster for UFC 140:
Rich Attonito vs. Claude Patrick
John Cholish vs. Mitch Clarke
Brian Ebersole vs. Rory MacDonald
Frank Mir vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
