When Carlos Condit unexpectedly replaced Nick Diaz at UFC 137, the first question that arose was; Why did Diaz flush a golden opportunity down the toilet? The second question was; Who would BJ Penn (Pictured) now co-headline the pay-per-view broadcast against after Condit’s promotion?
While both of those inquiries remain unanswered, Penn took to his Twitter Thursday afternoon and revealed UFC president Dana White has done something drastic to sweeten the pot for the Hawaiian. Unfortunately for fight fans, only Penn and White currently know what was offered.
“Dana just offered me a deal I can’t refuse. pretty sure I’m still fighting on Oct. 29th,” Penn posted.
For those that believe former welterweight top contender Jon Fitch would serve as the perfect last-minute substitute, the rematch does appears possible – depending upon who you ask.
“my twitter has blown up. Lots of people asking if I’ve been offered a fight yet. I haven’t. But I am more than willing to fight bj or Diaz,” Fitch tweeted early this morning.
Which caused Penn to promptly reply back, “@jonfitchdotnet If your not ready to fight shut your [email protected]&%ING mouth! Dana said your not cleared till December.Quit wasting everybody’s time.”
Not true, according to Fitch, “@bjpenndotcom I’m cleared to fight oct 29.”
Penn and Fitch fought to a highly controversial draw at UFC 127 this past February.
UFC 137 takes place October 29th inside the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tickets for the show went on sale yesterday, so the co-main event clock is ticking…
