Next Saturday, welterweight Jake Ellenberger headlines his first Octagon show when he meets Jake Shields at “UFC Fight Night 25: Battle on the Bayou.” Just prior to wrapping the most important camp of his career, “The Juggernaut” took a few moments on Thursday to chop it up with 5thRound.com at Reign Training Center.

The up-and-comer discussed a variety of topics, including his thoughts on Nick Diaz’s recent controversy, the added responsibilities of serving as the featured attraction in a UFC event, as well as the challenges of fighting a man that recently lost his father.

There may have been some bad blood between the 170-pounders in the past, but Ellenberger immediately expressed his condolences after hearing the unfortunate news of Jack Shields’ passing. While he understands his opponent will be fighting with a heavy heart, the 26-year-old believes he’s prepared to handle an inspired Shields.

The Ernest N. Morial Center in New Orleans, Louisiana will host the September 17th event. The Spike TV broadcast airs live at 9PM ET/6PM PT.
