According to UFC middleweight Michael Bisping, his UFC 105 main event bout against Wanderlei Silva has been scrapped. According to the brash Brit, Wandy’s recent facial surgery will keep him out of action until 2010.
Bisping recently posted a blog regarding the matter on his official website. Although he wasn’t sure who he might be facing in front of his hometown peeps, he intends on remaining in the night’s final fight.
“Quick update on the potential Wanderlei Silva fight,” Bisping wrote. “Unfortunately [that’s] not gonna happen. He’s undergone facial surgery, so obviously won’t be fighting in the near future. [Rumors] are he’s actually out for the rest of the year.
“So as of right now, [I’m] still unaware of who I’ll be facing at UFC 105. Obviously as stated before, when I know, you know.”
Although Silva has not confirmed the surgical procedure, it was reported that he did in fact go under the knife in order to remove scar tissue from his face. The operation makes the skin around your face less susceptible to fight-ending cuts.
Other sluggers that have had their mugs tagged up through the years have also undergone the procedure and have had great success, such as UFC welterweight Marcus Davis and Strikeforce Pothead Foker, Nick Diaz.
Bisping certainly wasn’t at his best during his 2ndRound knockout loss to Dan Henderson at UFC 100. The crafty veteran controlled the fight from start to finish, exposing Bisping’s lack of aggressiveness, and that is perhaps why he wound up down for “The Count.”
UFC 105 takes place November 14th inside the Manchester Evening News Arena and will be made available for North American viewers for free via same-day tape delay on Spike TV.
