It wasn’t the shootout fans were initially promised, but there will still be a slugfest going down in San Jose, nonetheless. On Wednesday morning, UFC president Dana White announced an injury has forced Vitor Belfort out of his UFC 139 scrap against Cung Le and Wanderlei Silva (Pictured) has agreed to play substitute.
“Vitor is injured and out of San Jose fight. Now Cung Le will fight Wandy!” White tweeted just moments ago.
Silva has dropped six of his last eight bouts and was most recently seen getting put to sleep by Chris Leben at UFC 132 in July. Although White suggested it was “probably the end of the road” for the former Pride FC superstar, it appears the 35-year-old will get one final hurrah.
Le, on the other hand, hasn’t sniffed a mixed martial arts canvas since posting a knockout win over Scott Smith at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum” in June of 2010. The kickboxing specialist holds a 7–1 MMA record, with all of his bouts coming under Strikeforce’s banner.
The HP Pavilion in San Jose, California will host the November 19th extravaganza.
