The Nevada State Athletic Commission released UFC 84:Ill Will’s medical suspension list. Many fighters will be out of action for a while after suffering some injuries that will take some time to heal. Both BJ Penn and Wanderlei Silva walked away perfectly healthy, as did some other undercard fighters.
Here’s a breakdown of the medical suspensions:
Jason Tan suffered a nasal fracture that must be cleared by a doctor or he cannot compete until 11/21/08 with a minimum of 7/9/08. Tan cannot have any contact until 6/24/08 after his TKO loss to Dong Hyun Kim.
Christian Wellisch is suspended until 6/8/08 and can have no contact until 6/1/08 after his TKO loss to Shane Carwin.
Terry Etim cannot have contact until 6/15/08 because of a right cheek laceration in his unanimous decision loss to Rich Clementi.
Kazuhiro Nakamura suffered a nasal fracture that must be cleared by a doctor or he cannot compete until 11/21/08 with a minimum of 7/9/08. Nakamura cannot have any contact until 6/24/08 after his TKO loss to Thierry Sokoudjou.
Antonio Mendes is medically suspended until 6/24/08 and can have no contact until 6/15/08 after his submission loss (strikes) to Thiago Silva.
Tito Ortiz must have his left hand and wrist cleared by an orthopedic doctor or he cannot compete until 11/21/08 with a minimum no contest of 7/9/08. Ortiz can have no contact until 6/24/08. He also suffered a right eyelid laceration in his unanimous decision loss to Lyoto Machida.
Goran Reljic is medically suspended until 6/24/08 and cannot have any contact until 6/15/08.
Wilson Gouveia is medically suspended until both his nasal and maxillary sinus fractures are cleared by a doctor. Gouveia also suffered broken ribs and cannot compete until 11/21/08 with a minimum no contest of 7/24/08. His minimum suspension is until 7/24/08 and no contact will be until 7/9/08.
Keith Jardine has to clear a possible nasal fracture with a doctor or else he cannot compete until 11/21/08 with a minimum suspension of 7/24/08. Jardine cannot have any contact until 7/9/08 after his TKO loss to Wanderlei Silva.
Sean Sherk is medically suspended until 7/9/08 and cannot have any contact until 6/24/08 after suffering a right cheek laceration in his TKO loss to BJ Penn.
